Five-time champions Brazil on Tuesday lived up to their favorites tag as they storm into the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Brazil beat South Korea 4-1 in their round of 16 tie at the 974 Stadium to set up a mouth-watering clash with 2018 runners-up Croatia, who beat Japan 3-1 on penalties on Monday.

The first half was a close finish, with Brazil leading Korea 4–0 at the break.

Brazil vs South Korea Match Highlights

Vinicius Junior opened the scoring for Brazil in the seventh minute, before Neymar scored his 76th international goal, one behind Pelé’s all-time record of 77, converting a penalty in the 13th minute.

Richardson made it 3-0 in the 29th minute with a superb teammate’s goal and then Lucas Paqueta sealed it with a superb finish in the 36th minute.

Korea came out with better tactics in the second half and kept Brazil’s strikers at bay, also helped by the South American side’s lack of pace. The Asian team’s sustained efforts in the second half earned them a consolation goal in the 76th minute, when Paik Seung-ho scored from distance. But it was too late for him as his campaign was over.

The world’s most expensive player, Neymar, missed his team’s last two matches due to a sprained ankle in their first game in Qatar, a 2–0 win over Serbia.

But he returned for that last-16 encounter as Tite’s team clicked into gear and at least sent a bad message to their rivals before softening in the second half.

The five-time World Cup winners had not scored four goals in a knockout game in the tournament since 1998. Here they played with Anand, sometimes associated with the Brazil national team, showing off his dance moves to celebrate each goal together with the players, which their coaches also join them.

The opener came with his first shot on target in the seventh minute when Raphinha shot away from Kim Jin-su on the right and his ball fell across goal at the feet of Vinicius who calmly took his position.

Thry then won a penalty as Richardson was caught by Jung Woo-young and Neymar beat Kim Seung-gyu – his last six goals for Brazil have now come from everywhere.

Alisson was then adjudged to have tipped over Hwang Hee-chan’s vicious long-range effort, but then the Brazilian scored his third in style just before the half-hour mark.

Richardson continued into the box before Marquinhos headed the ball three times outside the area and then got on the end of Silva’s pass, which he headed home for his third goal of this World Cup.
Paqueta then got the finishing touch for the first time in the fourth nine minutes before the break when he connected on a Vinicius ball from the byline.

They could have added more in the second half had they not taken their foot off the pedal, although Raphinha was denied on more than one occasion by the goalkeeper.

Korea, however, deserved credit for continuing and was rewarded inside the final quarter as substitute Pike brought down a head clearance and sent a powerful shot from 25 meters which beat Silva and Alisson.
