Ghana vs Uruguay Highlights: Uruguay out despite 2-0 win over Ghana in FIFA World cup 2022
Uruguay were heartbroken despite a 2–0 win over Ghana in their final group match, South Korea were knocked out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the round of 16 after losing 2–1 to Portugal in injury time.
South Korea and Uruguay are level in Group H with four points from three matches, but the Asian side won the tournament by scoring more goals (4) than Uruguay (2). Ghana is at the bottom of the group with three points.
It was the first time in two decades that La Celeste had failed to reach the knockout stages.
Ghana, who missed an extra-time spot-kick in the quarter-finals against Uruguay in South Africa 12 years ago, squandered a chance to take the lead in the 21st minute when Andre Ayew’s penalty was easily saved by Sergio Rochet.
Uruguay fought hard for the decisive goal, Ferderico Valverde going close with a volley from outside the area and Maxi Gomex having his shot saved by keeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi two minutes from time.
Uruguay attacked from the start and finally broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Darwin Nunez’s cross from the right took two defenders and found Luis Suárez, whose low shot went past keeper De Arrascaeta from the nearest range.
Uruguay attack again six minutes later, when Nunez passed the ball to Suárez, who knocked over De Arrascaeta’s pass to volley under the keeper. The goals came minutes after Ghana were awarded a penalty on their first attack of the match, when keeper Sergio Rochet flicked on a Jordan Ayew shot that brought down Mohammed Kudus. Andre Ayew getting past Rochette encouraged Uruguay to double down on their attack.

Ghana is at the bottom with three points.
Ricardo Horta’s goal gave Portugal the lead inside five minutes, but Korea held their nerve in their do-or-die match and Kim Young-gwon equalized in the 27th minute. With Uruguay already leading 2–0 against Ghana at the half time break, Korea needed a goal to go ahead in the second half. And the winner came late in stoppage time when ‘super sub’ Hwang Hee-chan put Korea ahead of Uruguay in the knockout race.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward scored in the 91st minute at the Education City Stadium in Qatar, sending waves of joy and tears among Korean fans.
