Netherlands took no time to top Group A at the 2022 World Cup thanks to a straightforward 2-0 win over hosts Qatar.
Louis van Gaal’s side will face the runner-up from Group B in the last 16 as Cody Gakpo and Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong scored either side of the break in the knockout stages.
Gakpo’s superb finish was the highlight of the first half as the PSV forward scored his third goal of the tournament with a superb finish from the edge of the box.
De Jong’s close-range goal early in the second period ended any hopes of a Qatari fightback as Senegal’s 2–1 victory over Ecuador lifted them into second place.

Kalidou Koulibaly scored a valuable winner at the expense of Ecuador to propel Senegal to the Round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Needing a win to qualify, with the Netherlands expected to top Group A after beating Qatar, the African champions went ahead just before half-time when Ismaila Sarr headed in Piero Hincapie, who converted the penalty.
It was a deserved lead for the Lions in Taranga, who missed a series of early chances with Idrissa Gueye and Boulaye Dia both pulling shots wide.

But Ecuador equalized in the 67th minute when Moises Caicedo tapped in from a corner.
La Tri, however, equalized with just two minutes to go as Gueye’s free-kick fell to Koulibaly in the box and the Chelsea defender fired home with a superb right-footed volley.
