The opening match of PSL 2023 faced a halt of 30 minutes as a fire broke out in one of the floodlight towers during the opening ceremony before the game.
The Pakistan Super League 2023 got underway on February 13 (Monday) when the tournament’s opening match between defending champions Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans proved to be a last-ball thriller.
Batting first, Lahore Qalandars scored 175 runs thanks to Fakhar Zaman’s 42-ball 65.
Although it was tough for Mohammad Rizwan and co to chase down the total against the likes of Shaheen and Haris Rauf, Sultan got off to a good start as Rizzo scored 75. The scorecard finally read 127 for 1 in 15 overs.

Ahead of the opening match, a floodlight tower at the Multan Cricket Ground lit up with fireworks before the coin toss.
Panic spread throughout the grounds and the fire brigade was called in to extinguish the affected floodlights. Although the accident did not prove fatal, an ambulance was also made available to ensure the safety of injured spectators (if any).
