Qatar were bids either side of half-time and Qatari substitute  Mohammed Muntari gave Senegal the lead through Famara Diedhiou’s goal before a dramatic finish in the 78th minute. Senegal substitute Bamba Dieng put the result beyond doubt six minutes later and lifted the African champions, who began their Group A campaign with a 2-0 win over the Netherlands.

Defeat down the left will leave Qatar sweating the result, should they avoid following South Africa in 2010 as only their second World Cup host exit after the first round.
If Ecuador fails to beat the Netherlands at the end of the day, their elimination will be confirmed, making Qatar the first World Cup host to be eliminated after two matches.

Qatar had a nervous start to the tournament after losing 2–0 to Ecuador and again looked promising against Senegal.

The Asian champions dropped their goalkeeper Saad Al Sheeb to the bench after a poor performance in the first match.
His substitute Michael Barsham didn’t inspire much confidence in the early stages, fumbling over a corner as Senegal headed for the opening goal.

Ismaila Sarr and Nampalys Mendy had by then missed chances to score for Senegal, and Idrisa Gana Gueye and Youssouf Sabaly scored more goals in the first half.

Qatar spent the opening 45 minutes on the back foot, but a rare break forward saw Akram Afif miss a penalty when he was brought down by Sarr.

Senegal looked like they would go into half-time without managing to break Qatar’s resistance, only for the hosts to gift them a goal in the 41st minute.

Qatari defender Boualem Koukhi allowed Dia to pounce on a loose ball and fired it past Barsham.

Qatar vs Senegal : Qatar out of world cup

Senegal doubled their lead shortly after the break when Diedhiou saw a header at the near post from a corner.

Qatar started to show more attacking intent from two goals down and Afif was involved in everything.

Almoez Ali forced a fingertip save from Senegal goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy before the Chelsea player saved the Africans again from Ismail Mohamed’s effort.

Mendy dug into his line as Muntari pulled one back for Qatar, going home powerfully to get the hosts back in it.

The goal lifted the crowd and Qatar scrambled for a second, but Dieng ended their recovery by sweeping the ball home for Senegal’s third in the 84th minute.

Abdelkarim Hassan then struck a free-kick just outside the post as Qatar tried to counter-attack but Senegal held on to see out the win.
