In a nervy Group D scenario, Australia cruised into the Round of 16 after beating Denmark 1-0. Tunisia exited as the third-place team, but not without recording a 1–0 victory over France. Antoine Griezmann equalized for France late in the game but VAR intervened and found the Atlético Madrid man was offside.

France, who made nine changes to the team that beat Denmark and have already booked their place in the knockout stages, lead Group D on goal difference from runners-up Australia.
The Tunisia victory also ended France’s six-match winning streak at the World Cup.
Tunisia also threatened early on, with Nader Ghandari heading the ball into the net from a free-kick, but play was offside.

Matthew Leckie scored his first World Cup goal which proved to be the match-winner as Australia beat Denmark 1–0 in their final Group D match to reach the last 16 for the first time since 2006. in Al Waqra, Qatar on Wednesday.
After a barren first half, Leckie put Australia ahead on the counter-attack in the 60th minute, when he dribbled past the Danish defense before slotting the ball home.

Denmark, who looked lively and had more possession, could have created chances in the first half and taken an early lead but before the Australian goalkeeper Jesper Lindström’s shot was blocked from close range.

Australia are second, level on group winners France, with six points after losing 0-1 to world champions Tunisia. Denmark is at the bottom with one point while Tunisia is third with four points.
Australia have qualified for the knockout rounds for only the second time, having done so 16 years ago when they lost 0–1 to Italy in the last 16.
