Washington was selected to replace Ravichandran Ashwin in IPL team Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017 when he made his IPL debut. In the first IPL 2017 Qualifier between Mumbai Indians and Pune Supergiants, in which he took three wickets for 16 runs, he was named man of the match. He currently has the best bowling figures in the IPL Championship.
He was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 IPL auction in January 2018. In October 2018, he was included in India C’s roster for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy. Sundar was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad during the 2022 IPL auction for 8.75 crores.

Washington first appeared on the cricket horizon through the 2016 U-19 World Cup. He was then selected in the Tamil Nadu team for the Ranji Trophy. The all-rounder also contributed to the inaugural Tamil Nadu Premier League in 2016. So when R Ashwin pulled out of IPL 2017, the Pune franchise signed him as his replacement. Washington grabbed this opportunity with both hands and impressed everyone with his bowling. He took eight wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of 6.16.
He was included in India’s T20 International (T20I) squad in November 2017 for the series against Sri Lanka. He was also included in India’s One Day International (ODI) squad for the same series early next month.
